Join us as we explore how our actions on the land — from where we walk, ride, or dig — ripple outward through soil, plants, animals, and the river. Discover some of the living things that share the park with us and learn how we can all enjoy the park while supporting a healthy watershed.
Participants will walk away understanding how small choices can create big positive effects downstream.
Participation fees for these nature walks have been waived as a result of funding support provided by The City of Calgary

Beavers in the Weaselhead

Join us for an exciting exploration of the Weaselhead Natural Area as we search for signs of one of nature’s most important ecosystem engineers—the beaver! Participants will discover lodges, dams, and freshly cut trees while learning about the fascinating history, biology, and behaviors of beavers. Together, we’ll uncover how these incredible animals support biodiversity and keep our watersheds healthy. Hopefully we will also meet the family of beavers living by the bridge!

Join one of our Naturalists as we explore the deep interconnections of healthy watersheds and healthy bird populations in the Elbow River watershed. Learn how birds interact with the river and wetlands—including nesting, migrating and foraging—and how our actions can support them in the Weaselhead.
What’s in your Water: Amphibians of the Weaselhead

Calgary historically was home to 6 amphibian species but now is home to just three, Boreal chorus frogs, Wood frogs and Tiger salamanders. All three of them happen to live in the Weaselhead! Join us for a hike to learn about amphibians, what has caused declines in the City and what you can do to help them thrive. Along the way, visit a couple of the park’s wetlands and hopefully catch a glimpse of these awesome critters!
This hike will be directed towards adults, however, children are welcome (must be accompanied by an adult)
We will meet in the North parking lot at the corner of 37 St and 66 Ave SW
Hike will be approximately 4km in length on paved pathways and dirt trails, led by one of our Naturalists.
